Josiane “Josie” Mullenix, 79, of Peoria, passed away at 8:32 a.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2009, at home, with her family by her side.
Josiane was born in Verdun, France on March 24, 1930, a daughter of Raymond and Jeanne (Albert) Cuny. She married Dennis E. Mullenix on August 1, 1966 in Verdun. He survives.
She is also survived by her son, Serge (Patty) Pelosi of Peoria; brother, Maurice (Henriette) Cuny of France; four grandchildren; and one great grandson. Her parents preceded her in death.
Josie was a homemaker, after ending her career as a beautician in France and moving to the United States with her husband.
She enjoyed knitting, dancing, cooking, reading and gardening. She received her greatest enjoyment in life from her family. Josie will be remembered as a loving and compassionate lady.
A private family visitation and service will be held, with her grandson, Marc Adam Pelosi officiating. Entombment will be at Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria.
Memorial contributions may be made in Josie’s memory to Harbor Light Hospice in Peoria.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home, 428 West McClure Avenue, in Peoria.
I remember when I first started taking French in high school and had my first broken conversation with Memere in French. She was so enthralled and pinched my cheeks and was so happy that I could somewhat talk to her in her native language. She always had a smile on her face, always couldn't believe how pretty I was getting, always offered me wine and brie or camembert. She was one of the most beautiful and happy women I have ever met, especially when she was around her family. You couldn't help but be happy when you were around her. Although I wasn't as close to her as the rest of my cousins, I was always so happy to see her, and she was always happy to see me. I miss her so much, and it saddens me knowing I won't see her again. But I also am so happy that she is in a much better place and no longer in pain. We love you and miss you, Memere.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I never spent a lot of time with Josiane but every time we were together she was sweet, vibrant and classy. In reading the notice and seeing the wonderful slide show I see a woman who loved her family and will be dearly missed. My deepest sympathy to your family. I will keep you all in my prayers.

So sorry for your loss. To lose a loved on at any age is hard. The time spent with them always feels so short. But it is comforting to know that God does care about us and knows that losing a loved one is something we never get use to. But we can find comfort in knowing of the resurrection that is spoken of in John 11:25, "I am the resurrection and the life. He that exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life." May you find hope in the resurrection and in many other promises God has for us and in the good memories you have.

My prayers go out to you in this time of loss. Your Mother was a wonderful lady & I am so glad that I can say I had the chance to know her. She was a great lady & I will hold the memory of trying to put her corsage on her the day of your wedding & her & I giggling because neither one of us knew what we were doing.
